Investing in Our Students. Investing in Our Schools.

On April 7, 2026, the Grain Valley community overwhelmingly said yes to a $40 million school bond issue. Through the community's support, this investment reflects a commitment to meeting the needs of all students by creating a safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

We thank you for your support in making these improvements possible, and would invite you to stay connected using this webpage. These projects are estimated to be complete in the Fall of 2027. The district will continue to provide status updates and important information pertaining to the improvements made across the district.

Reimagining Matthews Elementary

Matthews Elementary originally opened in 1978, and was added onto in 1985 and 2008. This addition and renovation provide much-needed updates to the oldest school in our district.

What is the Plan:

  • Building Addition: A substantial new addition will be constructed on the west side of the school, featuring a new main entrance.
  • Gymnasium & Cafeteria: Construction of a new, larger gymnasium to match the standards of other district elementary schools.
    • Renovation of the current gymnasium to transform it into a larger cafeteria.
  • Specialized Classrooms: Renovations to existing spaces will result in specialized classrooms for students with high-needs special education needs, and these rooms will include their own student restrooms.
  • Library Media Center: The library will be expanded through internal renovations.
  • Traffic & Parking Improvements: Increased parking capacity on-site and reconfigured traffic-flow patterns to improve safety and efficiency for both buses and cars.
  • General Maintenance: Other repairs and improvements are expected.

A new outdoor athletic facility is planned for the area east of North Middle School, and will support the athletic programming for both middle schools and our high school.

What is the Plan:

  • Addition of an Outdoor Athletic Complex: Includes a competition turf football and soccer field and an eight-lane track.
    • Supports the expansion of middle school athletics and accommodates the growing need for middle and high school practice space.
  • Features of the Facility: Equipped with seating, lighting, restrooms, and concessions.
  • Parking Improvements: Parking expansion on-site to accommodate school event operations for the outdoor athletic facility.

Addition & Renovation to Sni-A-Bar Elementary

What is the Plan:

  • Building Addition: A small addition will connect two of the existing wings of classrooms. This addition will add much-needed classroom spaces and create an enclosed courtyard south of the library.
  • Specialized Classrooms: Renovations to existing spaces will result in specialized classrooms for students with high-needs special education needs, and these rooms will include their own student restrooms.
  • General Maintenance: Other repairs and improvements are expected.

Improved Secure School Entrances

What is the Plan:

  • All school entrances remain locked, and visitors are screened before entering each school. With the passage of this bond issue, security at visitor entrances across all schools will be further improved, as needed, consistent with the findings of a recent independent safety study.
